About Our Village | Building Inspection Program


The Village of New Lenox maintains a building inspection program to insure that all construction activities conform to minimum standards to protect health, safety, and welfare of Village residents.

A structural building permit must be obtained for any construction or remodeling activities that involve the construction or alteration of any structural component of a building.

It is also necessary to obtain a permit for all of the following construction activities:

• Room Additions
Garages
Utility Buildings
Decks
Porches
Swimming Pools
Fences
Signs

These are just a few of the items that require a building permit. Please contact the building dept. to verify whether or not a permit is necessary prior to any construction beginning.

Further information on building permits can be obtained from the Village office Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. or by calling the building department at (815) 462-6490.

The Village of New Lenox does enforce a property maintenance code that establishes minimum standards for the maintenance of all residential property.
