As part of the Village's Community Policing Efforts, the New Lenox Police Department now has seven officers trained and certified in conducting child passenger safety seat checks. Each of these officers is certified as Child Safety Seat Technicians and can inspect Village residents' child safety seats on individual bases.

Nationally Child Safety Seat Technicians have found, on average, less than 10 percent of the seats are installed correctly. Our Police Department, as part of the inspection process, will check safety seats for factory recalls, explain commonly made installation mistakes if necessary, and show the parents how to correctly install the child safety seat. They will also explain the guidelines for types of child seats based on age, height and weight of individual children.
