Required inspections vary based upon the type of project, and are listed in the Building Guide for the applicable permit and project type.
Many activities require notification of J.U.L.I.E. before you dig. Some activities, such as landscaping, patio construction and tree planting, require a call to J.U.L.I.E. even though they do not require a building permit. For more information, contact J.U.L.I.E. at 1-(800) 892–0123.
A building permit is required when any structural change or major alteration is made to a building and for any new construction. A permit is required for decks, driveways (new, replacement or expansion), electric service upgrades, fences (new or replacement), attached and detached garages, gazebos, generators, porches, reroofs, screened porches, three season rooms, room additions, sheds, signs, swimming pools, hot tubs, underground sprinkler systems, window and/or siding replacements and demolitions.
It is the responsibility of the property owner to obtain a permit and post it on the job site; however, a contractor may apply for and obtain a permit on behalf of the property owner.
Permits are required for your protection and are a vital part in the enforcement of building codes. Failure to obtain the necessary permits is a violation of the Village Code and may result in penalties.

Each spring and fall the lake “turns over”. During the early spring as the water warms after winter it turns over with the cooler below and vice versa in the fall. It is important to note this is not a health issue but a nuisance. After a few days to a week the taste and odor issue dissipates.
Cold water holds more dissolved oxygen than warm water. When the water first enters the house, it is cold and if little or no water is used for a long period of time, the water will warm up in the interior pipes. This forces the dissolved oxygen out of solution and the air bubbles will make the water appear cloudy. If you look at a glass of water for a minute or so, the tiny bubbles will clear from the bottom to the top. Running the water for a short period of time will eliminate the condition.
You may have a dry p-trap. Add water to each drain in your home to prevent odors from escaping through a dry p-trap.
3,000 to 5,000 pounds of solids come into the plant every day some of this is later hauled to farm fields and used a fertilizer.
There are numerous factors that may be the cause for water main breaks. Aging infrastructure (pipe corrosion), extreme temperatures, ground shifting, vibrations from traffic are just a few of the more common causes.
The Illinois Department of Resources allocates how much water any one community is allowed to withdraw from the lake. So it comes down to supply and demand, when the demand is greater than the supply we must ensure we have enough supply for sanitation, fire protection, and drinking purposes. This is the primary function of the water department.
The nature of our business is problematic. Temperature, flow conditions, wind conditions and mechanical operation can all cause some odor to escape the plant.
