The mission of the Community Policing Division of
the New Lenox Police Department is to facilitate a partnership
between the community and the police. This is accomplished
by working with community groups to mutually identify
and resolve community problems, and to keep the lines
of communication open. With that end in mind,
we are able to commit the necessary amount of time needed
to alleviate the long-term issues that may affect the
community. The New Lenox Police Department maintains
a very active Community Policing Division, responsible
for a vast array of community services.
The following is a list of the services available through
the Community Policing Division:
BASSET Training
Beverage, Alcohol, Sellers and Servers Education and
Training is required by Village Ordinance for local
businesses maintaining a liquor license of A, C, D,
F, and G. Classes are available through the police
department. For more information on the Basset

Basset Training Program
Certified Child Seat Installation
Officers are Certified Child Safety Seat Technicians.
Officers will check for recalls on the child seat,
and whether the seat is properly installed. This is
done by appointment only. Contact
the Community Policing Division.
Citizen's Police
Academy
This is a FREE informational 12-week
program provided as an overview of the how the police
and the Criminal Justice System operate. It is
open to the public, and presented in conjunction with
the Will
County Sheriff’s Police Department.
This program is offered annually beginning in March
of each year. (Applicants must be18 years of age or
older).
Engraver's
Engravers are available to be signed out through the
Community Policing Division for residents to mark their
valuables.
Enhanced Neighboorhood Watch
Individual officers are assigned to areas /subdivisions.
This program is designed to encourage residents to participate
with the police department increasing communication
and resolving problems that affect the quality of life
for the community. If you have a police related
issue you feel needs to be addressed please complete
an Action
Request Form. Contact the Community Policing
Division if you would like to be involved in your area.
Hunter Safety Course
The Hunter Safety Course is a FREE mandatory two day
class. This course instructs potential hunters on wildlife
conservation, ammunition, first aid, wildlife management,
field safety, basic archery, muzzle loading and state
regulations regarding live fire and hunter responsibility.
Children 12 years of age and younger must be accompanied
by an adult. To register contact the Community Policing
Division. The Illinois
Department of Natural Resources also hosts
these classes.
K-9 Demonstrations
K-9 “Bear” is available for demonstrations
for community groups. A three week minimum notice
is needed to schedule demonstrations. Contact
the Community Policing Division to schedule your
event.
Lunch With A Cop
Officers visit students at the local grade schools
during their lunch periods. This makes the
officers accessible to students for questions in
a relaxed, non-threatening environment. Officers
visit all nine New Lenox Grade Schools throughout
the year.
Police Department Tours
Tours of the police department are scheduled for local
community groups (Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, etc.) through
the Community Policing Division.
Proud American Days
This annual community event in New Lenox is hosted by
the New
Lenox Park District.
The Community Policing Division provides materials and
information regarding the programs offered through the
Police Department.
Saved By the Belt Award
The Community Policing Division recognizes citizens
that wear their seatbelts when involved in a crash. Officers
nominate person(s) who were involved in a crash which
they believe would have sustained increased injuries
if they had not been wearing their seat belt.
Stranger Awareness
Children are taught what makes a person a “good” versus “bad” stranger,
what they can do to protect themselves and how to stay
safe in different situations.
Torch Run For Special Olympics
The Police Department supports the Special
Olympics of Illinois. The annual
Law Enforcement Torch Run is the single largest year
round fundraiser conducted by officers representing
every branch of law enforcement across the state.
Approximately 3,000 officers carry the Flame of Hope
nearly 1,500 miles, running through thousands of communities
via 23 different legs (routes) to its final destination.
Opening Ceremonies of the Special Olympics Illinois
Summer Games take place in Normal, Illinois. The Torch
Run is in June each year. If you are interested
in making a donation to support the Special Olympics
contact the Community Policing Division.
Other Programs
In addition, Click it or Ticket, Buckle Up America,
Operation Safe Passage, and You Drink, You Drive, You
Lose, are all traffic safety programs/mobilizations
stressing the importance of traffic safety and the
adherence to local traffic laws. All Officers
of the New Lenox Police Department participate in these
programs which are held at various times throughout
the year.
Staffing
The Community Policing Division is currently comprised
of one Sergeant, one Community Policing Officer and
two Community Service Officers. The Community
Policing Sergeant is also responsible for overseeing
the ATV, Bicycle and K-9 Unit.
