Criminal Investigations |
The
Criminal Investigations Division of the New Lenox Police
Department is tasked with following leads developed
during the initial reporting of criminal activity to
the Police Department. The Criminal Investigations
Division is ready to respond anytime, day or night,
to the needs of crime victims, or to the scene of any
criminal activity including, but not limited to: Homicide,
Burglary, Arson, Aggravated Battery, Robbery, Criminal
Sexual Assault, etc. The members of the Criminal Investigations
Division first work to follow up on reports of criminal
activity initially reported to our uniformed patrol
officers. The Detectives then establish that a criminal
act was indeed committed, identify and apprehend the
person responsible for the criminal act, and attempt
to recover any property that may have been stolen.
The Investigations Division is also responsible for
the integrity of crime scenes, along with the evaluation,
collection, and maintenance of evidence. The Investigations
Division plays an integral part in assisting the State
of Illinois in prosecuting suspects charged with an
offense.
The
Criminal Investigations Division is managed by Deputy Chief
Robert Pawlisz, supervised by one Sergeant,
and comprised of three full-time Detectives. Detectives
receive specialized education and training in Homicide
Investigation, Sexual Assault and Battery, Narcotics
Investigation and Identification, Interview and Interrogation
Techniques, Crime Scene Processing, Financial Fraud
Investigation, Internet Safety and many other investigative
techniques. The New Lenox Police Department Investigations
Division works in cooperation with local, state, and
federal law enforcement agencies in a multitude of different
ways. Members of the Division are detailed to
the South
Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, a multi-agency
group responsible for investigating the most serious
crimes in the area, and the Will
County Gang Suppression Unit,
a multi-agency unit responsible for combating gangs,
drugs and violence in the Will County Area. Additionally,
the detectives are responsible for testifying at Grand
Jury, obtaining and executing search and arrest warrants,
attending meetings with local school and civic groups,
conducting community-based training, operating undercover
drug programs, and much more.
The Investigations Division also takes part in the Will
County State’s Attorney’s Office Bad Check
Restitution Program. Businesses that need
