State of Illinois legislative law.

The Illinois Premise Alert Program is a safety program designed to enhance police and fire service
to those New Lenox residents who have disabilities and/or special needs, by providing first
responders with needed information about individuals at a specific address. The information
provided to first responders is stored in a secure database that provides responders with
information via a computer aided dispatch, prior to arriving at the scene. The Premise Alert
Program is a voluntary program and free of charge.
If you are a New Lenox resident and are interested in participating in the Illinois Premise
Alert Program, please complete the Illinois Premise Alert Program Enrollment Form.

at the New Lenox Police Department.
Illinois Secretary of State Emergency Contact Database
This database allows Illinois instruction permit, driver's license and identification card holders
to enter their emergency contact information into a voluntary, secure database. Starting in August
2009, in the event of a motor vehicle crash or other emergency situation where a person is unable
to communicate directly, law enforcement may access this database to help them reach the person's
designated emergency contacts.

Citizen's Police Academy
The New Lenox Police Department is proud to offer residents the Citizen’s Police Academy. The
Citizen’s Police Academy is an eight-week program that introduces participants to the roles and
operations of the Police Department through classroom discussions, field trips and “hands on”
experiences. The academy gives citizens a unique look inside their local police department.
The goal of the academy is to bring the community and the Police Department together as a team and
enhance understanding of how the New Lenox Police Department and its Police Officers function.
Participants will learn about a variety of topics, including gangs, drugs, personal protection
and identity theft. There is no charge to enroll in the Citizen’s Police Academy, however you
must be at least 18 years of age and submit to a background investigation. Applicants will be
disqualified from attending if they have been convicted of any violent crime or any crime that by
its nature is deemed counterproductive to the spirit and goals of the Citizen’s Police Academy.
Participants must not have any outstanding warrants. While the Citizen’s Police Academy is open
to everyone, residents of the Village of New Lenox and people who work in New Lenox will be given
first priority for participation.
Applications for the academy can be picked up at the front desk at the New Lenox Police Department
or can be downloaded from the link below. The completed application can be dropped off or mailed
to the New Lenox Police Department located at 701 W. Haven Ave, New Lenox, IL 60451.
Child Safety Seat Inspections
The New Lenox Police Department offers residents free child safety seat inspections by
appointment. Child safety seat inspections are critical to ensuring that the Village’s youngest
residents are protected when in a motor vehicle. If you are interested in having your child
safety seat inspected, please contact the Police Department at 815-462-6100.
Why are Child Safety Seat Inspections so important? Motor vehicle crashes remain the leading cause
of death of children, ages 3 to 14. Many of these deaths can be prevented through the proper use
of child safety seats. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA),
properly installed child safety seats can reduce fatal injury by 71 percent for infants and by 54
percent for toddlers, ages 1 to 4.
The problem is most parents and caregivers are unaware of the risk to children when they are not
properly restrained in child safety seats. According to a recent study, 96 percent of parents and
caregivers believe their child safety seats are installed correctly, but NHTSA research shows that
seven out of 10 children are improperly restrained, putting them at risk for serious injury or
death in a crash.
