Village Services - Snow Removal/Parking

Winter Conditions:

Winter season often brings inclement weather conditions, making travel difficult.  One of the Village's primary objectives during the season is to keep roads and highways free from snow and ice through plowing and salting operations.  As residents, you can help us keep our streets and roads safer by keeping vehicles off public roads during snow storms and by not depositing snow from private drives and walks onto Village streets.

On-Street Parking Prohibition:

In order to effectively clear all streets from curb to curb, any vehicle parked on the roadway must be removed.  Failure to clear the entire road surface hinders further removal of snow and presents a hazard when remaining snow on the streets freezes in place.  As soon as the snow depth reaches 2" or greater, all vehicles must be removed from the street.  It is advisable, however, to remove your vehicle as soon as it begins to snow.  When parking overnight, keep in mind that it may snow while you are asleep, creating a problem early in the morning.  Village code provides for ticketing of vehicles in violation of this Ordinance.

Depositing Snow in Roadways:

The practice of pushing or blowing snow from private driveways into public roadways is prohibited.  Frozen snow piles and windrows from private snow removal operations create a hazard to vehicular traffic and make subsequent snow removal efforts difficult.

We ask you that when clearing your driveway and walks, you place the snow in your yard or the parkway, rather than on the street.  Depositing snow on the street simply adds more to your drive after the next plowing cycle.  Our snowplow drivers try to minimize any excess plowing of snow into cleared driveways.  We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in this effort.  Should you have any questions regarding the placement of snow on the streets or other snow plowing operations, please call the Public Works Department at 485-6452 during normal working hours.

Snow Tow:

In the early morning hours when the majority of our plowing is performed, many vehicles remain parked on the roadways creating an obstacle for our drivers, as well as causing additional trips to clear the remaining snow once these vehicles are moved.  In order to allow all roadways to be cleared in a timely, efficient manner, we request that those evenings when substantial overnight snowfalls are predicted, residents arrange to have their vehicles off of the street until plowing operations are completed.  In areas where insufficient off street parking exists, we ask that vehicles be removed by 7:30 a.m. when plowing operations are being conducted.
