Grit Removal

This stage in the process removes the small inorganic materical that the bar screen does not catch. This process reduces the velocity of the water and allows heavy solids to settle. A vortex rotation helps to separate the rock, sand, glass, and other non-organic material from the rest of the water. This material is pumped into another separation where more water is removed. Finally, an auger lifts the grit up completely separating it from the water and depositing it to a dumpster. This material is taken weekly to a landfill for burial.
