[ARCHIVED] Christmas in the Commons – Weekend Adjustments Due to Extreme Cold

We have made adjustments to this weekend’s Christmas in the Commons festivities due to dangerously low temperatures forecasted during event hours. While certain programs have been modified to ensure safety, the event will remain open, and several attractions will continue as scheduled.

Santa Visits (4:00–8:00 PM) – Indoors

Visits with Santa will continue as planned but will be moved inside the Village Hall rotunda to provide a warm environment for families.

Light Displays

The popular Christmas in the Commons light displays will remain fully open throughout the weekend. Visitors can walk the Commons and enjoy the festive lights while sipping hot cocoa from the concession stand.

Heated Tents Open

Two heated tents will remain open and available for guests:

  • Arrowhead Ale’s Lounge

  • Character Visits Tent

    • Saturday: The Grinch

    • Sunday: Anna & Elsa

Holiday Market

Holiday Market vendors have been offered the option to cancel their participation due to the extreme cold. As a result, some vendors may not be in attendance.
The Village encourages residents to support participating small businesses by visiting their online shops.

Concessions

Concession operations will be open with a reduced staff to ensure safe working conditions. Hot cocoa and warm beverages will remain available.

Horse-Drawn Wagon Rides

Horse-drawn wagon rides will operate with one wagon this weekend to allow animals and staff time to warm up between rides.
Ride times may be slower than usual due to the weather.

Performances

Performers scheduled for the weekend have been permitted to cancel without penalty.
Groups choosing to participate will perform indoors at Village Hall in the upper-level rotunda. Viewing space will be available both upstairs and downstairs.

Food Trucks

Food trucks may still attend; however, refunds are being issued to all participating trucks, regardless of their decision to attend or cancel.

The Village of New Lenox will continue monitoring weather conditions and will provide additional updates as needed.
We appreciate the community’s understanding as we work to keep everyone safe while still offering a festive holiday experience.
