Replacement Water Reclamation Facility
In anticipation of continued growth, the construction of a new 5.5 million gallons per day water resource recovery facility and conveyance began with phase 1 in August of 2024. This plant will be located at Gougar Road and Laraway Road and will not only increase the Village’s wastewater capacity but will also allow for the consolidation of the three existing sewage treatment plants which will ultimately lower operation costs. Future phases of this consolidation project will include the phase 2A and 2B which includes the construction of a pump station on the current site of sewage treatment plant #1 at Cedar and Rt. 30 along with force main down Haven Avenue to Nelson Road and gravity conveyance on Nelson Road, Illinois Highway and Gougar Road. This second phase is anticipated to begin in 2026 with completion of the first two phases in August of 2028. The third phase will be the construction of a pump station where wastewater plant #3 is located on Summerfield Road and include a force main to transport the sewage to the new facility. This phase is planned to begin design in 2025.
Construction progress as of April 2025
Water Infrastructure Improvements
- The Village of New Lenox, along with its municipal partners are in the process of building an additional water main from Oak Lawn to our Tinley Park Pump Station. This additional line will not only increase the capacity of water available to the Village, but will ensure that there will always be flowing to the Village should there be any issues with the current line. This project is expected to be completed near the end of 2026.
- The Village of New Lenox is also in the planning stages of a second line running from Tinley Park to the Village. Multiple avenues for this second line are being explored. Design for this project should begin in the near future.
- The Village also continues to improve their water mains within the Village boundaries. We recently completed improvements to Cedar Rd., Route 30, Vine St., and on the north side of town. We will continue those efforts this upcoming fiscal year, as we continue upsizing and replacing older water main on the north side of Route 30, south of Wood St.
- The Village is in the process of going out to bid on a new water tower to be built just north of the Jewel on Schoolhouse Rd. This tower will increase water pressures to the southeast quadrant of town, in addition to providing one millions gallons of water storage. Construction is expected to begin in the spring, with a projected completion date of September 2027.
- This spring the Village will continue replacing and upsizing their water mains on the north side of town. The water mains will be replaced on Ash, Cooper, and West Wood Street. Construction will begin in early spring and is expected to last until early fall.
Village Commons Improvements
The Village of New Lenox is currently in Phase I of improvements to the Village Commons. The first phase consists of upgrades to the electric, sidewalk replacement, curb repair, and new light poles in the inner circle of the Commons. In addition, speakers will be integrated into the light poles for a better listening experience. The first phase should be complete in spring of 2025.
The second phase, beginning in the Spring of 2025, will consist of sidewalk additions, sidewalk replacement, curb repair, and new light poles on the outer ring of the Commons. The final step will be an asphalt replacement throughout the Commons.
Please use caution when traveling, walking, and attending events in the Commons as we work to enhance your New Lenox Commons experience.
