Many residents and business owners may be receiving solicitation phone calls asking for a financial donation to, what they interpret to be, the New Lenox Police Department. When these solicitors call, please listen carefully to the caller. The New Lenox Police Department does not solicit monetary donations. Any donations made will not benefit the operations of the New Lenox Police Department. Operations for the Police Department are funded through tax dollars. The union representing the sergeants of the New Lenox Police Department, the Metropolitan Alliance of Police, will be making these solicitation calls. Any donation will go to that union. Additionally, any donation made will not have an effect (either positive or negative) on the service delivery of the New Lenox Police Department.
The union is allowed to solicit for funds and must legally represent themselves during the phone conversation. However, many residents and business owners have voiced confusion and concern over these calls in the past. If you receive a call and are confused, ask the caller what a donation would fund and what organization would receive it. Anyone with questions or concerns should contact Deputy Chief Hilary Davis at the New Lenox Police Department at 815-462-6100.

The nature of the sewer plant’s operations can cause odor. Factors such as temperature, flow conditions, wind conditions, and mechanical operation can all contribute to some odor escaping the plant.Public Works

The Illinois Department of Resources allocates how much water any one community can withdraw from the lake. When demand exceeds supply, restrictions ensure enough supply for sanitation, fire protection, and drinking purposes. This is the primary function of the water department.Public Works
-
There are numerous factors that may cause water main breaks, including aging infrastructure (pipe corrosion), extreme temperatures, ground shifting, and vibrations from traffic.Public Works
-
3,000 to 5,000 pounds of solids come into the plant every day; some of this is later hauled to farm fields and used as fertilizer.Public Works
-
You may have a dry p-trap. Add water to each drain in your home to prevent odors from escaping through a dry p-trap.Public Works
-
Cold water holds more dissolved oxygen than warm water. When the water first enters the house, it is cold, and if not used for a long period, it warms up in the pipes. This forces dissolved oxygen out of solution, creating air bubbles that make the water appear cloudy. These bubbles clear from the bottom to the top over time. Running the water for a short period will eliminate the condition.Public Works
-
Each spring and fall the lake “turns over.” During early spring, as the water warms after winter, it turns over with the cooler water below and vice versa in the fall. This is not a health issue but a nuisance. It usually dissipates after a few days to a week.Public Works

3-
Regulations & Registrations - Lawn Sprinkling / New Lawn Watering Permits
Chicagoland communities have limits on the amount of water available to them. The Village of New Lenox's, as well as the other communities, regulations are a necessary part of managing the water we receive.
-
Regulations & Registrations - Lawn Sprinkling / New Lawn Watering Permits
Some individuals are not aware of the regulations, others decide not to follow them. Those who are aware but do not follow them are subject to fines up to $750 per infraction. To report a concern about water misuses, call the Public Works Department at 815-215-4800 or drop us a note at: Report a Concern.
-
Regulations & Registrations - Lawn Sprinkling / New Lawn Watering Permits
These times are during periods of the day with limited sun exposure, minimizing the water lost to evaporation.
Regulations & Registrations - Water Backflow Assembly Testing
5-
Regulations & Registrations - Water Backflow Assembly Testing
Backflow occurs when a loss in water pressure (commonly due to a fire hydrant being opened, a water main break, or abnormally high water usage) causes the water in your pipes to flow in the opposite direction. This could allow contaminated or polluted water to travel back into the drinking water supply, possibly contaminating thousands of people.
-
Regulations & Registrations - Water Backflow Assembly Testing
A backflow prevention assembly is a testable mechanical device which uses valves, in different configurations, to prevent contaminated water or chemicals from flowing back into the public drinking water supply system.
-
Regulations & Registrations - Water Backflow Assembly Testing
Cross connections can occur at both commercial and residential properties. For commercial customers, cross connections exist in many forms, from carbonated beverage machines and ice makers, to fire sprinkler systems and x-ray machines.
On the residential side, the most common cross connections occur with lawn irrigation and fire sprinkler systems.
-
Regulations & Registrations - Water Backflow Assembly Testing
Yes. Lawn irrigation systems are considered a hazardous cross connection. All particulates that are in your lawn can seep into the underground pipes and enter the drinking water supply. This can be anything from fertilizers to animal feces. Properly working backflow prevention devices protect this from happening.
-
Regulations & Registrations - Water Backflow Assembly Testing
If you decide to no longer use your sprinkler system, you may cut and cap the pipe inside your home that leads to your sprinkler system. Once this is complete, the Water Department will need to be notified so they can inspect it.
Please note: If you have any questions or concerns, call the Public Works Department at 815-215-4800.
