Why Choose New Lenox?

Mayor Tim BaldermannA Welcome Message from the Mayor

Welcome to the Home Page for The Home of Proud Americans. Since the Village was incorporated in 1946, it has grown from a farming community to that of a bedroom community as housing stock increased. New Lenox is now considered a major, suburb with consistent, annual growth. The Village of New Lenox Board of Trustees and I welcome you to explore why we are truly the place to raise a family, locate your business, or invest your capital.

New Lenox is a progressive, dynamic community. Our central location that is southwest of Chicago, with excellent access to both I-80 and I-355 (JPG), make New Lenox a natural location for regional shopping, entertainment, and hospitality. Hence, "the Crossroads of Opportunity".

Additionally, the Village is proud that Silver Cross Hospital has made New Lenox a regional healthcare destination. Recognized as one of the nation's top 100 hospital in 2004, Silver Cross repeated that accolade ten times and most recently in 2022. The hospital boasts prestigious partnerships with the:

Located in Will County, one of the fastest growing counties in the state with a current population that has doubled in the last decade to approximately 700,000 residents, New Lenox maintains strong demographics supported by:

A myriad of entertainment and recreational choices are offered, which are detailed on the Special Events page. These include the Summer Concert Series, Fridays After Five, Independence Day Celebration, Chalk Walk, Ladies Night Out, National Night Out, and Play Day in the Commons among others. Regional trail access is also available.

New Lenox has a strong history of volunteerism, which has been reinforced as the community has grown. Residents are continuously encouraged to take advantage of the many opportunities to get involved and give back. In recognition of the strong community spirit in the Village, New Lenox was awarded the Governor's Hometown Award from 2011 through 2014 until the Award was disbanded. Moreover, New Lenox was the ninth community in the U.S. to receive the "Safe Community" designation from the World Health Organization and the National Safety Council, and received its re-accreditation for such in 2016. New Lenox is one of 20 safe communities in the country.

Out of 1,300 small cities in the U.S., in the past five years New Lenox placed in the 82nd percentile as one of the best small cities, according to the WalletHub website. The Village was voted the best municipality for four consecutive years in the Best of Lincoln-Way Readers' Choice Awards.  In the Southland's Best, the Home of Proud Americans was recognized as one of the best places to live, Christmas in the Commons was voted as one of the best festivals, and I humbly accepted the recognition of Best Mayor.

The Village Board has taken proactive measures to encourage new commerce and industry in New Lenox and has seen results along Route 30 by welcoming many new businesses to the area. The sales tax revenue generated by these businesses has allowed the Village to rebate a portion of the residential property tax to its homeowners. This program has been very well-received by the community. Our industrial parks in Cherry Hill off Gougar Road and also off Schoolhouse Road continue to grow.

We stand prepared to assist you in whatever way you may need. Please visit our website to learn more about upcoming events and issues in New Lenox.
